SIHH 2013 – Hublot Classic Fusion Tourbillon Black Ceramic

by Steve and Shirley Lambert

We bring you a little something from SIHH 2013 in Geneva which we sadly could not attend.. So are unable to bring you the same coverage we did from SalonQP.

But here is a little information from one of the brands present in Hublot and what we think is a lovely timepiece especially for those of us who may not be totally at home with the more familiar Hublot King Power and Big Bang Watches out there.

classic fusion Hublot

We have a black ceramic skeleton tourbillon watch with a slimmer, more classic profile, but which features an all-black design in line with Hublot’s graphic codes. We present the Classic Fusion Black Ceramic Skeleton Tourbillon, one of Hublot’s major new arrivals for the start of 2013.

Sleek and contemporary but with a timeless elegance drawn from traditional watchmaking values to create one of the kings amongst complications, this piece is truly striking with its satin-finished and polished black ceramic case and resolutely graphic skeleton tourbillon movement, designed, developed and produced from start to finish in the workshops of the Hublot Manufacture.

classic fusion Hublot face

On the dial, it is worth noting that the hands are similar in design to those on the very first Hublot watches: a clever reference to the history of the brand. This timepiece benefits from a 120-hour power reserve and is watertight to 30 metres.

With the tourbillon’s classic style and the ultramodern, sleek black design, this limited series comprising just 99 numbered pieces perfectly demonstrates the principle of fusing tradition and modernity, outstanding craftsmanship and 21st century creative vision in watchmaking.

Hublot King Power Oceanographic 4000 Jeans /hublot-king-power-oceanographic-4000-jeans/ /hublot-king-power-oceanographic-4000-jeans/#comments Wed, 20 Feb 2013 15:09:56 +0000 /?p=6182 Hublot King Power Oceanographic 4000 Jeans Dive Watch

Hublot King Power 48mm OCEANOGRAPHIC 4000 “Jeans” Dive Watch

Press Release by Hublot S.A

Hublot and Zegg&Cerlati unveil an exclusive special edition The “Oceanographic 4000 Jeans”, a diving watch designed to withstand the extreme pressure found at depths of 4,000 metres, yet boasting a high fashion look featuring denim for a summery feel.

Based on an idea by Tina Zegg and Carlo Cerlati, leading figures in luxury watchmaking based in Monaco, and backed by Hublot Chairman Jean-Claude Biver and the company’s CEO, Ricardo Guadalupe, this is the first ever ultra-technical diving watch to be adorned with denim.

The Hublot “Oceanographic 4000 Jeans” is a special limited edition of just 21 numbered watches available exclusively from Zegg&Cerlati boutiques, at Place du Casino in Monte-Carlo, Ischgl in Austria and Samnaun in Switzerland.

5812 cup

The launch of this ultra-technical watch, which combines fashion with the quality craftsmanship of an Haute Horlogerie timepiece, took place on the 18th February 2013 at the Wellness Hotel Chasa Montana in Samnaun in the heart of the Swiss Alps (Zegg Hotels & Stores), and was attended by the German Double Olympic and World skiing champion, Maria Höfl-Riesch, a Hublot ambassador since 2011. She was joined by Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, who made the trip, and Tina Zegg and Carlo Cerlati, representing Zegg&Cerlati.

A perfect fusion of technologies developed for the extremes found at depths of 4,000 metres, this special edition watch, designed to push the boundaries of what is possible while retaining echoes of high fashion, with its carbon case, dial made from genuine pressed denim wrapped in epoxy and strap featuring denim stitched onto black rubber, has summer written all over it.

5827

A real instrument with efficiency built into its ergonomics, this watch has been conceived and designed to test the limits of rationality.

It has taken 18 months of research, development and testing to present the Oceanographic 4000, a watch which can be worn on dives to depths of 4,000 metres, under extreme pressure – an exceptional technical achievement.

Almost all the features of the Oceanographic 4000 are exceptional, in terms of design, development and manufacturing. To be described as a “montre de plongée” (diver’s watch), resistant to the pressure exerted at the record depth of 4,000 metres, the watch had to meet the exacting specifications of the international standards of Swiss watchmaking (NIHS).

Starting with its seal, tested by Hublot in a Roxer tank, submerged and pressurised to the equivalent of 5,000 metres. To ensure the watch is water resistant and can withstand this pressure, the synthetic sapphire crystal is 6.5 mm thick. This is thicker than normal, but is reasonable for this level of resistance. The case back is screw-down, essential for reaching such depths. It is made of grade 2 titanium, an extremely strong stainless material.

The chunky, 48 mm diameter case is made from carbon fibre designed and produced entirely by Hublot.

In terms of brightness, the time and elapsed time measured by the flange must be legible from a distance of 25 cm in the dark. To meet this requirement, the dial, the flange and the hands of the Oceanographic 4000 have been optimised to have a larger surface area treated with
SuperLuminova™, a luminescent material that emits a grey colour.

5812

The display principle has been made as safe as possible, using an internal rotating flange which is unidirectional and rack-driven, with a dive time indicator. The dive time indicator is placed as close as possible to the dial to minimise the risk of inadvertently altering the dive time. It also makes the dive time easier to read. In accordance with the standard, the Oceanographic 4000 has a minute scale on which the five-minute periods are clearly highlighted.

The watch is fitted with two screw-down crowns (a protective measure that helps ensure water resistance by compression of an O-ring seal). The flange crown which sets the dive time is placed at the 2 o’clock position for easy access and more comfortable use. It is unidirectional, again for safety reasons, with a bayonet fitting, and protected by an oversized crown guard, for extra safety and easy operation when handling diving equipment. The second crown, for winding and setting the time and date, is positioned at 4 o’clock to avoid obstruction.

Finally, the Oceanographic 4000 has a helium valve, a feature essential to any diving watch capable of descending to great depths. An essential feature when the watch is used in diving chambers, the helium valve allows gases that have infiltrated the watch during the descent to safely escape during the ascent. The valve fitted to the Oceanographic 4000 is made of stainless steel, positioned at 10 o’clock, visible from the left-hand side lug.

The watch is supplied with two straps: The “City” strap, in denim stitched onto black rubber, and the “Diver” strap, longer than a standard strap, which has been developed to be worn over a diving suit up to 8 mm thick. Both feature ardillon buckles. This type of fastening is more secure than a folding clasp for this type of use, and is also easier to handle and close when using gloves. Note that the design of this buckle is original (because the use of a tongue is rare in the
normal Hublot collections) and that its method of attachment to the case is even more so with two small push buttons built into each end of the case to allow the strap to be changed instantly without the use of a screwdriver.

Hublot presents its “Jeans” Ladies watch collection

Hublot Big Bang Jeans Ladies Watch Collection.Nothing says summer fashion quite like stylish denim.

Contributed by The Lamberts

Hublot did it! For the first time, a luxury watch brand has produced a collection of “Jeans” watches. And we haven’t settled for any old denim: The dials and straps are made by an Italian denim manufacturer who supplies the world’s biggest luxury and fashion names.

5835

Based on an idea by Tina Zegg, the collection comprises three ladies’ “Big Bang Jeans” watches and one ultra-technical men’s diving watch, the “Oceanographic 4000 Jeans”, all of which incorporate a detail of Dsquared denim from Tina Zegg.

You can almost feel the summer breeze in the faded blue of the denim. This won’t be the year that jeans make their exit from the fashion world. An accessory that has remained on trend since its creation, jeans are still an essential fashion item. Chic, rock’n’roll, sexy, boho, vintage, urban, authentic, tie-dye… denim is whatever you want it to be, and an enduring wardrobe staple for men and women alike.

The launch of this collection, which combines fashion with the quality craftsmanship of Haute Horlogerie watches, took place on the 18th February 2013 at the Wellness Hotel Chasa Montana in Samnaun in the heart of the Swiss Alps (Zegg Hotels & Stores), and was attended by the German Double Olympic and World skiing champion, Maria Höfl-Riesch, a Hublot ambassador since 2011.  She was joined by Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, and Tina Zegg and Carlo Cerlati of Zegg&Cerlati in Monaco.

Hublot and Ferrari partnership 2012 review

Hublot teams up with Ferrari in Valencia, Spain, to celebrate the Finali Mondiali of the Ferrari Challenge and conclude an amazing year together!

Press Release – 6th December 2012 by Hublot S.A

A fantastic year across the board for Ferrari and Hublot and a highly successful first 12 months for the partnership in terms of both sales and image and, as the year draws to an end, Hublot together with Ferrari chose the Finali Mondiali in Valencia, Spain, to celebrate this amazing 2012 together and unveil the plans and ambitions for the following 2013 season.

This first year of partnership was marked by a fruitful collaboration between Ferrari and Hublot, with over 130 events organised worldwide where both Ferrari’s sports cars and Hublot’s exclusive timepieces were effectively showcased. The companies’ teams collaborated closely to enhance their respective marque’s synergies in events staged in important new emerging markets, such as Taiwan, as well as in support of exceptional international activities, such as the successful attempt at setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest ever parade of Ferrari cars at Silverstone. A further illustration of the importance of the partnership between Ferrari and Hublot is the signage now in Place Vendôme, Paris which was inaugurated on the 1st of December 2012.

This illustration in Paris recalls the launch of the first Big Bang Ferrari in Titanium and the Magic Gold watch at Baselworld in April. Magic Gold is the first ever scratch-resistant 18-carat gold, a technological material invented by Hublot. The presentation was presided over by Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, and Ricardo Guadalupe, the company’s CEO, and attended by Andrea Perrone, Senior Vice President of Ferrari Brand with other distinguished guests and friends. During the launch other significant creations dedicated to special Ferrari events or markets were showcased, such as the 20 magnificent carbon Tourbillons produced exclusively for collectors in China, or the watch produced exclusively for owners of the Ferrari 250 GTO at the gathering to mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary car.

These highly successful ventures were encouraged directly by Jean-Claude Biver and Ricardo Guadalupe and are already sparking ideas for new models. Come to the Geneva Trade Show in January to see what we are planning next.

What a privilege for Hublot to be a part of this magic! What an honour! Cant wait for 2013!

Hublot Magic Gold Formula disclosed….

Written by D Constant

Here at The Watch Review Site have been meaning to bring you this Hublot Magic Gold article by Meehna Goldsmith for a while now but our adventures at SalonQP- UK’s Fine Watch Event took over as you can see from our Photo Diary. Now we have found to time here goes.

We have always been fans of new innovative materials and solution used in timepieces of all grades, and as we all know Hublot are one of the leaders in Fusion and using, creating and inventing new and unusual material concepts for use in their Big Bang and King Power ranges, one of these is the formulation of Hublot’s own Gold… Yes their own Gold know by all as Magic Gold and at last our good friends at Longitude – Christies watch Blog have uncovered the formula and let us all know..

Well Meehna Goldsmith broke the story on Christies Watch Blog, but in reality it is now general knowledge and the process is no longer a deep dark secret as Hublot have managed to obtain the patent for Magic Gold, this 18k Gold does not have the yellow colour of normal 18k Gold but more of a Blacky Yellow, but it is superior in scratch resistance to the original material. You can and it is porved that Magic Gold is 18k Gold as it contains the appropriate proportions of gold as required to achieve this the based material is 24k Gold, which then goes through an extensive process with added materials to increase resistance and durabilty to Voila you get Magic Gold.

The full stoty of this along with the formula can be seen at Longitude – http://blogs.christies.com/longitude/brands/hublot/magic-gold-hublot-reveals-the-magician-behind-its-creation-and-the-formula/. To find out all about Magic Gold, How it got it’s name?, The Student who created it and why? the story behind Magic Gold and the FORMULA in detail please read Meehna’s article here.

Introducing Hublot King Power “Arturo Fuente” Limited Edition Timepiece

Press Release by Hublot S.A.

The most sought-after of cigars, the “Opus X”, the “Arturo Fuente” factory, which has just celebrated its 100-year anniversary; a Cuban family with a deep love for its adopted home, the Dominican Republic…

…or when a cigar manufacturer meets a watchmaking manufacture, when the men at the controls share the same philosophy and form a bond of friendship, the result is known as:

King Power “Arturo Fuente”

In tribute to the Opus X, the rarest cigar in the world, according to some connoisseurs. A cigar as unique as its history… The world of a Cuban family with a most remarkable story, involving some of the most remarkable cigars around. Let’s go back to the mid-80s. Carlos Fuente was exploring an area near Santiago in the Dominican Republic, which bore a strange resemblance to the “Pinard del rio” valley, from where the legend of Cuban cigars sprang. He had the idea of growing tobacco plants there: but not just any plants, wrapper tobacco. Yes, wrapper tobacco in Santo Domingo. The whole industry took him for a madman. Be that as it may, he persisted and he succeeded. In a feat of farming, the tobacco emerging from Château de la Fuente is unique, boasting an exceptional power and wealth of aroma.

And while the vast majority of cigars comprise 5 tobacco leaves (wrapper, binder and 3 more leaves for filler), the Opus X has 9! Why, you might ask? Carlito’s answer is simple: “So that in every puff, you will discover a surprise.” In fact, every module is composed like a book, with its own introduction and chapters. However the Torcedores (the cigar makers) did not go along with this, and refused to make such cigars. Carlito had no hesitation; to make his dream come true, he created a school of Torcedores where he spent 10 months teaching his new recruits his vision of cigars.

In another successful feat, in 1992 the first Opus X emerged from Tabacalera Fuente, making it the first Dominican Puro (cigar deriving all its leaves from the same source). As the ultimate perfectionists, the Fuente family choose to “mature” them for at least 2 years before exporting, for the aromas of the various tobaccos to make a harmonious blend. What more is there to say, except that the whole world is latching onto the Opus X?

But this cigar is not just innovative for its design and tobacco. Its factory is completely unique, similar in many points to the Hublot watchmaking manufacture: 300 employees work there, as at Hublot, organised in workshops. The Opus X has a whole dedicated room, just like the complications at Hublot, where the Master Torcedores have their own domain, like the Master Watchmakers: they are both hotbeds of expert hands, know-how and exclusively reserved components. The similarities in organisation are striking… The Hublot and Arturo Fuente boutiques are even neighbours in Las Vegas.

But that is not all. Carlos Fuente Sr and Carlito Fuente have a deep love for their adopted home, the Dominican Republic. This country has many abandoned or orphaned children. Carlito is very aware of this scourge, to combat which he set up a School and Foundation in the heart of the tobacco plantations, with all the facilities necessary to house the children until they reach maturity. Giving and sharing – once more an outlook similar to that of Hublot, which never fails to tie in its events and operations with its ambassadors for the benefit of foundations and charity actions worldwide.

The King Power “Arturo Fuente” limited series is delivered in a genuine cigar case developed specially by Hublot, a blend between Macassar ebony and carbon. The top contains an exclusive OPUS X ring accompanied by the Hublot logo signature.

To mark the presentation of this watch, Arturo Fuente has created a special edition of OPUS X cigars for Hublot, with special rings.

HUBLOT celebrates the 2012 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX by unveiling the F1™ King Power Austin

Press Release by Hublot S.A.

This year marks the grand return of Formula 1™ to the United States. The penultimate Grand Prix of the season will take place from the 16th to the 18th of November at the brand new “Circuit of The Americas” built in Austin, Texas. To mark this key event in American sporting history, Hublot, as the Official Watch of Formula 1™, has decided to introduce a special watch, the aptly-named F1™ King Power Austin, available as a limited edition of just 250 numbered pieces.

Hublot F1 King Power Austin

With its titanium case, a material chosen for its lightness, resistance to corrosion and biocompatibility, this watch features unique elements which ensure it stands apart, created using diverse high-tech materials directly inspired by Formula 1™, such as the carbon and titanium bezel, satin-finished with a perforated effect which brings to mind the cutting edge performance of an high tech brake disc, the start and reset push-pieces, and a 30-minute timer at 3 o’clock.

The strap is made from black Hornback alligator leather, accentuating the refined and powerful style of the piece, sewn onto black rubber which ensures that the strap is comfortable, hard-wearing and exceptionally flexible, with the red stitching subtly picking up the colour of the dial.

Hublot unveils Big Bang Ferrari Timepieces in Rome

Press Release by Hublot S.A. – Rome – 4th October 2012

Exclusive atmosphere and special guests for the debut of Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Titanium and Magic Gold in Rome

Hublot, in collaboration with Bedetti Jewelry, hosted an exclusive private reception for the premiere of the Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Titanium and Magic Gold timepieces to coincide with the debut of the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, the most powerful V12 in the history of the Prancing Horse. Official Ferrari dealer Sa.Mo.Car saw in the splendid Piazza San Silvestro, home of Bedetti, the perfect showcase to celebrate the arrival of the very F12 Berlinetta at its Roman dealership.

With many special guests in attendance, the event’s atmosphere was one of exclusiveness, but also of sharing a passion for excellence and performance – and for the achievements of superlative research and technology.

The all-new Big Bang Ferrari is the perfect symbol of the excellence, competence and craftsmanship of Hublot in the art of fusion where harmony does not mean compromise.

The dial sports the iconic Prancing Horse appears in simple relief at 9 o’clock. At 3 o’clock, the minute counter (completed by a yellow date window) with hand counters and indexes inspired by a Ferrari reflect the motorsport DNA of the Italian icon while abiding by Hublot codes. Unique features include a crown with indices that resemble a circle, elongated push buttons on a rotation axis just like the pedals of a car, with carbon inserts on the case profile and a sensory feedback like pressing the pedals of a Ferrari. Two interchangeable straps with a very innovative system, inspired in their structure by the F1 seat harness and on the seams by Ferrari’s signature tone-on-tone upholstery, keep the Big Bang Ferrari fastened in place.
